Career Opportunity 
The City of Las Vegas is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Professional. This is a clerical position in the Youth Development and Social Initiatives department. Scheduled hours for this position are limited to 19 hours or less per week (Shift will vary based on the needs of the programs and facility).  Hourly employees are also limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18-month period. 

Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff.
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for future openings. 

Selection Process:
The selection process will include a review of all applications with only the most qualified participating in an interview. Final candidate selection will include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and complete background check. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Essential Functions: 

  • Performs a variety of administrative duties to include: 
    • Providing customer service support and troubleshooting.  
    • Composing, proofreading, translating and maintaining documents to include correspondence, meeting minutes, emails, forms, flyers, spreadsheets and reference materials.  
    • Tracking the department's city vehicles and parking validations. 
    • Assisting with event preparation and clean-up.  
    • Tracking, receiving, unpacking and delivering department supplies and, on occasion, participating in off-site shopping trips and events.   
    • Utilizing creative skills for various projects.  
    • Providing back-up support to the department's Administrative Support Assistants.
    • Other duties as assigned.

$20 an hour, 19 Hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Formal and informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Minimum of 2 years clerical experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform under the lowest level of supervision.
  • Ability to use proper grammar and possession of professional business writing skills.
  • Skilled use in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Skilled use of Microsoft Outlook (e-mail, calendar).
  • Ability to learn new software programs.
  • Ability to lift 20+ lbs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
