Position Summary:As a Production Supervisor, you will oversee day-to-day production activities within the plant. Your role involves providing direction and leadership to the assigned work group. You'll act as a bridge between plant management and the hourly workforce, ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity goals are consistently met. Additionally, you'll be responsible for adequately training and preparing your team to perform their tasks efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Develop and Implement Kiln Strategies for Successful Production:

  • Set targets for key process parameters.

  • Monitor kiln performance to achieve production, quality, efficiency, and environmental targets.

  • Create task lists and material requirements for kiln equipment maintenance and outages.

  • Collaborate with the other Production Shift Supervisors and Production Manager to enhance individual kiln crew performance.

  • Optimize stone blends and sizing in coordination with the lab team and Production Manager.

Coaching and Development of Kiln Crews and Leads:

  • Establish performance expectations and standards.

  • Actively coach team members to foster their development and success.

  • Continuously improve the kiln training program.

  • Assist in implementing the kiln operator scorecard and develop improvement plans based on results.

  • Document team members' progress and training.

Leadership:

  • Communicate clearly through written and verbal channels.

  • Provide feedback to operators and supervisors regarding kiln performance.

  • Support the Production Manager in implementing strategies and policies.

  • Lead your team effectively, driving inter/intra-departmental efforts for continuous improvement.

  • Prioritize tasks and delegate efficiently.

  • Recognize opportunities and set achievable goals.

  • Navigate effectively in a union environment.

Team Player:

  • Actively contribute to the overall success of the plant team.

  • Collaborate closely with other supervisors and the Production Manager to coordinate kiln production plans.

  • Work closely with the plant lab and maintenance departments to schedule tasks and resolve issues.

  • Participate in plant improvement initiatives.

Technical Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of Preheater Kilns in Lime Processing.

  • Proficiency in process control, collaborating with Electricians and Process Engineers for optimal system design, operation, and maintenance.

  • Knowledge or willingness to learn fuels, combustion processes, and environmental constraints.

  • Familiarity with Lime Chemistry and quality drivers.

Safe Quality Food (SQF):

  • Ensure a SQF-compliant workplace, adhering to regulatory guidelines (Federal FDA - Food Modernization Safety Act, CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety initiatives.

  • Promote employee safety and SQF culture.

  • Demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance, and Food Safety Culture after completing SQF training.

  • Regularly participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF, and environmental compliance.

  • Proficient in MS Office and basic computer skills to facilitate communication & documentation; makes effective use/application of electronic productivity tool.

  • Effective process problem solver using facts and logic to identify likely causes and resolve deviations and issues.

  • Thoughtful, analytic personality type, but able to interface with emotional with all levels of employees.

  • Able to spot problems and opportunities and interpret trends.

  • High work ethic and sense of ownership of the process.

  • Basic understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC).

  • Effectively integrate safety and environmental values and compliance into all production strategies and activities.

  • Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement of workforce skills and manufacturing KPI's.

  • Effective written and oral communications with employees, peers, and supervisors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.

  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.

  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Lime/Mineral Particles.

  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.

  • Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds.
